STRUTLESS TUBE KITES / KITESURFING BLOG
Other type of kites. It seems that the inflatable kite industry has taken some step towards removing struts or ribs on regular tube kites. This kites are known as strutless tube kites
It is evident that the more struts a kite has, the more will be its weight, this, unavoidably affects negatively its aerodynamic efficiency.
More weight for the given surface -sq meters of kite- it is never good news unless the wind is really strong, which it should be avoided by pure common sense reasons, in any case.
STRUTLESS TUBEKITES
Nevertheless, a strutless tube kite cannot offer a canopy surface enough tight to avoid some flapping on the kite fabric -that is why struts are placed on the kite. In between this two concepts it should be the succees of your kite choice
On this blog entry you can see a video of one of the kite strutless model by acceding through the following link:
What it’s obvious is that if the kite has no ribs it has significant less weight, higher turning speed, lower production cost and fewer subsequent problems as failure or peeling off the inflate valves or just higher odds of bursting bladders in any case
Must be considered that, allegedly, no struts could mean less rigidity on the kite and less performance though, for what can be appreciatte on the following videos lack of kite performance cannot be noticed.
This strutless kites seems to work well and it seems promising enough to see that our Hawaiian kite pals have found market recognition to continue with their kite production.
A couple of links about kiteboardriding Maui and Greg, the designer, bringing more interesting info and explaining how to proceed with the kite.
