Board grabs in kitesurfing
Kiters who are able to perform grabs offer their best nowadays at any famous kiteboarding spot
The grabs are originally coming from the world of skateboarding and they were first made to maintain the skateboard searching that the foot would not escape during any air movement.
With the arrival of other sports who use also a board, the different type of grabs give elegance and show to the jumps and transitions but as in some of these sports the board has no footstraps it becomes necessary to grab the board with a hand.
Although this is not the case of kitesurfing with a twin tip, as we have our foots inside the footstraps, however, in certain jumps, to get one or even two feet off, definitely, offers more circus to the maneuver.
To perform a good grab we should try to bring the hand up to the board flexing our legs but instead, trying not to bend the body while we perform the manoeuvre.
Keeping the board grabbed as long as possible it adds also vistosity to the grab. Generally the grabs start to be performed when we are already able to perform well and in control a front or a backloop.
The most usual grabs are named such nose grab, tail grab, nuclear grab, and indy.
